Meet the trainer - a quick Q&A with Ilse
How did your journey as a show jumper begin?
"I grew up surrounded by horses, and show jumping has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My family has always been involved in the sport, so from an early age, I was riding, competing, and learning what it takes to succeed in the arena."
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from competing at the highest level?
"Patience and consistency are everything. Success doesn’t come overnight — it’s about steady progress, learning from each experience, and always striving to improve, both as a rider and as a horse(wo)man."
How would you define your coaching style?
"I believe in structured, goal-oriented training with a focus on steady improvement. I like to challenge my riders, helping them develop a strong foundation that will support them in the long run."
What do you enjoy most about coaching Green Riders?
"I love working with ambitious riders who are eager to learn and willing to put in the work. Seeing their progress, whether it’s mastering a new technique or gaining confidence in competition, is incredibly rewarding.”
What goals are you working towards in your own career?
“I still have big dreams as a competitor — one of them is to go to the Olympics. Every day, I work towards becoming a better rider and preparing both myself and my horses for the top level. As a coach, I want to help international riders reach their highest potential, whether that’s competing internationally or simply becoming the best version of themselves in the saddle."
